Join Us for an Evening of Art & Writing for Asheville Launch of LGBTQ+ Storytelling Anthology

October 8, 2026 in News by Adam Polaski

This month the Campaign for Southern Equality (CSE) will publish The Lavender South, Volume 1: Our Histories, Our Movement, Our Visions for the Future. The anthology features the work of 49 LGBTQ+ creatives from nearly every Southern state and is the culmination of more than a year of online storytelling published by the Campaign for Southern Equality.

To launch the anthology, published in print for the first time, the Campaign for Southern Equality will host an evening of art, writing, and music in Asheville, where CSE is based. The event, hosted at DayTrip on Thursday, October 15 a from 6-8pm will feature poetry and essay readings from anthology contributors, plus live musical performances from Leeda Lyric Jones and Brennan Page, and food options provided by Norah’s food truck. Please note that this is a 21+ event.

Emma Chinn, lead editor of The Lavender South and the Communications & Policy Manager at the Campaign for Southern Equality, said:

“Hundreds of LGBTQ+ Southerners have shared their stories of resilience and resistance online through The Lavender South in the past 18 months – reflecting on their personal histories and coming of age, the Southern LGBTQ+ movement following the reelection of President Trump, and Southern queer visions for the future. By sharing these stories – especially in person, during this launch event, we hope to illuminate the challenges and the joys of LGBTQ+ Southerners in our time, and spark conversations among our community.”

Edited by the staff at the Campaign for Southern Equality, all sales of this magazine support our work to build a South where LGBTQ+ people are equal in every part of life.
