NOTE: 9/28/24 – Hurricane Helene has devastated communities across the Southeast, including Western NC where CSE is based. We are sending love and support to everyone impacted – and encourage everyone to follow guidance from local officials, continue reaching out to friends and neighbors, and being attentive to emerging relief efforts. While much of the Campaign for Southern Equality’s programming will be paused this week, with our office closed, we will continue to provide navigation support, information, and funding to families of transgender youth through our Trans Youth Emergency Project, but communications and grant processing may be delayed. We ask for your patience as we sort through the work ahead.
Cruel laws banning best-practice gender-affirming care have passed in 25 states across the country – and as a result, thousands of transgender youth and their families are being forced to travel extreme distances and take on significant expenses just to get the care they need.
The Trans Youth Emergency Project is here to help families navigate this complex and exhausting maze, offering logistical and financial support. Our team provides 1-on-1 custom patient navigation services and supports families of transgender youth with emergency grants to help them travel out of state for care.

Documenting the Crisis
A key part of our work at the Trans Youth Emergency Project is documenting the crisis of transgender youth being prohibited from accessing gender-affirming care. We’re working with reporters all across the country to share the stories of impacted families and get the word out of the enormous barriers and burdens that these bans impose.
