Young

July 20, 2026 in Uncategorized by Lindsey Jaymes Spero

Young one,

Your wings, already clipped by the voices of familiar dissent coming from the ground around you, like some flightless birds who’ve never seen the tree tops, but deem the view unworthy

Young heart,

Your love, bounding over its shores, at the thrill of being alive; a beating heart, contained merely by the vessel, each breath, a shout of joy and awe at the experience

Young child,

Your intuition, clouded by the weight of doubt and fear, a murky place for questions to land, unable to explain why trust felt so far away

Young adventurer,

Your feet, eager to take you to a place you can call home, wandering and searching for something you couldn’t yet understand

Young thinker,

Your mind, a bounding place of confusion and turmoil, the fingers of anxiety wrapping themselves around your frontal cortex, like a noose choking the thought of hope

Young learner,

Your eagerness for knowledge, lost in a place of Biblical references and stories written by men who care nothing for you and stopped allowing themselves to learn a long time ago

Young hopeful

Your eyes, forever on a future that only you can see, guided by the voices of ancestors you don’t yet know

Young daughter,

Your soul, firmly pressing forward into the unknown, doing as you are taught, even though it feels as strange and uncomfortable as the hair on your head

Young woman,

Your tears never lost, only building the river to carry you home. A magical force of light and a gift you cannot yet understand, your depth of sorrow fuels you to want to find a world filled with less shadows

Young butch,

Your chest that could built mountains, the water falls off you like the cascades of a rainstorm, running through the divots of your scars as a holy baptism of joy and hope and renewal

Young dyke,

Your voice will shake the ground around you as the people you love are encouraged to action, following your charge and wisdom, gathering at your side, becoming a chorus of liberation louder than the sun

Young queer,

They will never shoot you down. Your life has purpose and meaning that you cannot understand yet. Your voice contains courage and the wisdom to know which step to take. Your soul contains those who’ve come before, holding you, as you venture into the unknown

Young transsexual,

Your liberation has already begun.
