Angie and Jan: Participants in the WE DO Campaign who are requesting a marriage license on Wednesday, October 5, 2011.
While attending a United Methodist seminary in Chicago, we met, dated, fell in love, got engaged and then married. That’s the quick and easy version! Jan is an ordained minister and serves as a chaplain. Angie has worked with a number of social service agencies and is currently enrolled in the MSW program at Western Carolina University.

Our journey together is much like any other couple – gay or straight. We’ve had great romantic highs, mundane daily routines, mother in-law moments (we do love them), little arguments, some disagreements, the spectacular addition of an energetic curious baby boy, and life. It’s in the details that make it our story, but overall we look like Archie and Edith Bunker or Clare and Cliff Huxtable (the Cosby’s) only we’re two women! Just call us the Jan & Angie show – it’s a great comedy!
We love each other and we’re committed to each other. For 10 ½ years we have taken very seriously our vows to each other, our family and God and plan on doing it while growing old together. We want the state and the nation to recognize and protect our marriage and our family. We want the same rights as our parents and siblings – all of whom are straight. This is not only for us, but also for our son. Our faith tells us that all should be at the table sharing the feast, which translates into respect and equal rights for all.
