Jill Ellern and Nancy Tomaszkiewicz: Participants in the WE DO Campaign who requested a marriage license on Tuesday, October 4, 2011.
Nancy and Jill met using an online dating site and hit it off right away when they first met in person at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Franklin on Halloween. They have been dating for the past year and traveling around the country together. They don’t live together although they have been talking about it. Nancy currently lives in East Asheville and Jill in Whittier, NC.
While they both feel it’s a little early for wedding bells for them, their participation in the Campaign is about the future. They both feel strongly that when any couple is serious about wanting to get married that they should have the ability to do so. They hope that when and if they do want to get married for real that it will be legally recognized in all 50 states and not just by friends and family. They want access to the marriage rights and protections that other couples enjoy without question. They hope that their actions and the actions of each couple that tried to get a license these two weeks, will highlight the issue and make it more real for people around the state and the nation.
