Monroe and Lupe

October 12, 2011 in We Do Campaign by Jasmine Beach-Ferrara

Monroe Moore and Lupe Perez: Participants in the WE DO Campaign who will request a license on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.

Lupe and Moore have been together for 21 years. Both had mutual friends, and they met in March of 1990 at St. Joseph’s hospital. Monroe worked part time for a florist, and unknowingly delivered flowers to Lupe’s hospital room after Lupe’s emergency appendectomy. Later that same day, Monroe arrived with a Duck Tales coloring book, crayons and movie magazines.

Lupe, a college freshman at Mars Hill College, had just completed 4.5 yrs in the US Army. Monroe, a recent Appalachian State University graduate, was waiting tables at 23 Page Restaurant.

April 18, 1990 at 3:30 PM, Monroe picked up Lupe for their first date: champagne with strawberries on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Within a couple of inseparable weeks they spoke of the dream of children in the future and of a home to create with each other.

Eleven years later, 2001, Maria Grace Perez was placed into their arms, followed 2 years later with Beatrice Kai Perez and again 3 years later with Oliver Henry Perez.

On November 4, 2007 Lupe and Monroe were married in the Cathedral of All Souls, in their spiritual home and with their Faith community. They were surrounded by their loving families and friends. Incidentally, it was the first time that they kissed in public, at the altar.

Monroe and Lupe believe in and are dedicated to North Carolina, specifically Asheville. They both work for, dream and hope for a future where they enjoy marriage not only by the church, and their families, and their friends, but by the State and Country they call home.
