Resources for Families of Trans Youth in North Dakota

In North Dakota, HB1254 bans best-practice healthcare for transgender youth, making hormone therapy, puberty-delaying medication, and surgery inaccessible in North Dakota for any trans person until they turn 18. The law was passed and went into effect in April 2023, and states that youth who were receiving gender-affirming care in North Dakota before April 2023 can legally continue to access care in North Dakota. The law is currently in effect.

Youth can still access mental health care, which is not restricted or banned by this law. Youth and their families may also travel to access care in other states where gender-affirming care has not been restricted.

The Campaign for Southern Equality and the North Dakota Human Rights Coalition are working with partners across North Dakota to provide resources and information to impacted families. Click here to learn more about the Trans Youth Emergency Project.
