Two bills banning gender-affirming care for youth under the age of 18 in New Hampshire; HB377, which bans puberty-delaying medications and hormone replacement therapy, and HB 712, which bans breast reduction surgeries will go into effect January 1st, 2026. A bill banning genital surgery for youth, under the age of 18, HB 619 went into effect January 1st, 2025. Thankfully, the bills include a continuing care clause for current patients, but cruelly strip away any opportunity for care in New Hampshire from patients who are not able to begin care before January 1, 2026. Families with transgender youth should consult with their child’s physician as soon as possible about care plans.
Youth can still access mental health care, which is not restricted or banned by this law. Youth and their families may also travel to access care in other states where gender-affirming care has not been restricted.
