Now Hiring: Special Assistant to the Executive Director

September 15, 2025 in Uncategorized by Adam Polaski

The Campaign for Southern Equality is hiring for a new part-time position – Special Assistant to the Executive Director. Details on the position and how to apply are below.

About Campaign for Southern Equality:

The Campaign for Southern Equality (CSE) is working to build a South where LGBTQ people are equal in every part of life. A South where your zip code doesn’t determine your rights. Where all of us are free to be who we truly are and love who we truly love. CSE’s work is rooted in commitments to empathy and equity. At this unprecedented time of anti-LGBTQ attacks – and as public support for LGBTQ equality across the South and nation continues to grow – CSE is meeting the moment through a combination of rapid response work and longstanding programs that include direct services, advocacy, organizing, grassroots grant making, research, and public arts. CSE is based in Asheville, NC and works across the South. Learn more about our work and current priorities at www.southernequality.org.

Position Summary:

The Special Assistant to the Executive Director is a trusted extension of CSE’s Executive Director, ensuring she has maximum focus, efficiency, and impact. This role goes far beyond logistics. It’s about helping a fast-paced executive move through each day with precision and purpose and support CSE during a period of sustained growth. This role can be structured as a part-time staff position or part-time contract position.

You’ll manage time, prep materials, juggle priorities, and anticipate needs before they arise. You’ll support both internal operations and external engagements with professionalism, calm, care, and humor. You’ll communicate clearly, maintain momentum, and navigate confidential matters with maturity and judgment. This is a high-trust, high-exposure position at the center of a dynamic organization. It’s an incredible opportunity for a detail-oriented, emotionally intelligent professional who takes pride in staying five steps ahead.

CSE’s Executive Director works closely with our Legal Team to protect and support our programming and operations. The ideal candidate will have experience and comfort working with lawyers, creating and formatting documents for legal purposes, and isn’t daunted by legalese.

The ideal candidate will also enjoy supporting CSE’s cross-disciplinary programming, which includes community-based research, direct services, advocacy, and public arts.

You’ll report directly to the Executive Director and engage regularly with staff and contractors, board members,
and other leaders across the organization.

    gaps without prompting
