Stand with Starkville Pride

February 27, 2018 in Uncategorized by Aaron Sarver

We’ve seen a lot of bravery and leadership from young people over the past few weeks. Add Bailey McDaniel and Emily Turner, both students at Mississippi State University, to the list.

Bailey and Emily are lead organizers with Starkville Pride in Starkville, Mississippi. Last week, the city’s Board of Alderman voted 4-3 to deny a permit to Starkville Pride to host the first-ever Pride celebration there. There was no reason to deny the permit except hostility toward LGBTQ people.

But Bailey and Emily knew this was wrong and vowed to keep fighting. That’s when our team jumped into action and connected them with attorney Roberta Kaplan.

Today Starkville Pride filed a lawsuit against the City of Starkville to challenge this blatant violation of their First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.

Now we’re asking folks across the country to stand with Starkville Pride.

Click here to donate to Starkville Pride.

And click here to send a message of support to the LGBTQ community in Starkville. Let’s let them know the country stands with them.

As this lawsuit moves forward we’ll keep you posted. We’re confident we’ll be down in Starkville this summer celebrating their first-ever Pride parade with Bailey and Emily.
