Trans 101: What Everyone Needs to Know about Working with Transgender People

Overview of what ‘transgender’ means.

Why transgender sensitivity matters.

Understanding vocabulary about gender and what it means.

Gender Jeopardy: Team up to test your knowledge!

Trans 201: Advanced Training in Working with Transgender People
90 minutes
Prerequisite: Trans 101

Deeper discussion about the systemic issues trans people face, tailored to your field of practice (education, health care, business, social services, law enforcement, etc.).

Discuss scenarios specific to the attendees’ situation in small groups. (i.e., Teachers have scenarios they’ll experience with trans students; physicians have scenarios they will experience with patients, etc.).

Facilitated whole group discussion around best practices.

Practice by engaging in role-plays with each scenario.

Trans 101 and 201 can be combined for an intensive, half-day workshop.
Trans 301: Organizational Assessment of Transgender Support and Services
1 to 2 weeks
Prerequisite: Trans 101. (Trans 201 may also be useful for some organizations.)
The organizational assessment moves beyond training and into identifying opportunities for becoming a safer and more inclusive space for transgender people, both served by and employed by the organization.

Analysis and assessment of the organization’s current services.

Information about best practices for policies, procedures, and physical facilities.

Recommendations for tangible steps the organization can take to achieve best practices.

Team of trans educators are available for questions throughout the process.
