Join Our TYEP Parents Support Group

Many parents of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive youth have big feelings about the recent orders, policies, and bills affecting their kids. We’re committed to providing a safe, welcoming space for these brave young folks and their families – so we’re welcoming parents and caregivers of trans kids and young adults to gather in community to share fears, feelings, challenges, and hopes with each other.

The Trans Youth Emergency Project will host an online youth and parent support session led by mothasistah™ and Mandy Giles of Parents of Trans Youth.

Each online session will be 1 hour and 30 minutes on Zoom and will not be recorded to protect confidentiality. The first session will take place on June 2nd. Registration is required, and requests are approved manually. Please be patient until a human sends your confirmation!

Meet the Hosts

Mandy Giles (she/her)

Mandy is the parent of two transgender young adults, an educator, advocate, connector, and general rabble-rouser. She founded the social impact business Parents of Trans Youth to provide learning, support, and community to parents and caregivers of transgender kids. Mandy has testified before Texas Senate and House committees against multiple bills targeting transgender youth and has spoken frequently in school board meetings, panel discussions, media interviews, and rallies. You can follow Parents of Trans Youth at @parentsoftransyouth.

mothasistah™ (she/her/queen)

mothasistah™ isn’t hard to figure out. While she overstands that the binary is a myth, she does apply the binary to how she chooses her friends: if you’re standing up for trans rights, you’re her people – if you’re not standing up for trans lives, you’re not. Real simple. After 30+ years of educating and mentoring youth from K-12 to college, mothasistah™ walked away from her career to devote her passion into someone much more important: her son with trans experience. mothasistah’s “daughter” introduced himself to her when he was almost 7. From there, mothasistah™ became her son’s student and realized that she had to unlearn just about every teaching she’d ever received about humanity. Fast-forward 13 years and you see a proud womxn-founder of blaq noyz, LLC, mothasistah’s consulting business and an unapologetic Black author of her children’s book series, Life…According to Z, based on her family’s journey surrounding her son’s gender-nonconforming journey. mothasistah™ says, “this work is NOT easy, but just like being a mother, it’s all i know how to do. and i wouldn’t change a thing.” You can follow her at @mothasistah.
