On January 18, 2012, two LGBT couples – Ivy and Misha, and Sam and Erin – requested and were denied marriage licenses in Greenville, SC as part of the WE DO Campaign. Knowing they would be rejected, they took this action to call for full federal equality.
They were joined by over 60 supporters, including family members, close friends, and clergy. Immediately following the denials, the group participated in a Prayer Service for Reconciliation, praying for the strength to resist unjust laws and to always express love towards those who opposed LGBT rights. This action was part of a stage of the WE DO Campaign that took place in Greenville and Charleston, SC, between January 17 and 19, 2012.
