One couple requested and was denied a marriage license at the Randolph County Register of Deeds in Asheboro, North Carolina. Barb and Angela took this action as a same-sex couple with the knowledge that they would be denied, but they wanted to voice the legal discrimination that LGBT individuals face every day.
Barb and Angela were among many couples requesting and being denied marriage licenses in North Carolina. During the third stage of the WE DO campaign, LGBT couples will continue applying for marriage licenses through May 15 across the state.
