Monroe and Lupe have been together for 21 years. Today, the couple was joined by their three children as they requested – and were denied – a marriage license. Their support team included dozens of friends and community members. Clergy members were also present, including Rev. Brian Cole of The Cathedral of All Souls, Rev. Joe Hoffman of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Rev. Mahan Siler, and Rev. Amy Cantrell of Beloved Community.
Couples will continue to request licenses through Friday, October 14. On the 14th there will be large public blessing of all LGBT families, followed by a large public action. For more information about Friday’s events, click here.
