Elli and Viviana were the 20th couple to take action as part of the WE DO Campaign. Joined by their newborn daughter, Elli and Viviana requested – and were denied – a marriage license due to a North Carolina state law that prohibits marriage equality. They were joined by a team of supporters, including friends and community members. Also present were clergy from Boston, MA and Asheville, NC – Rev. Laura Ruth Jarrett of Hope Central Church, Rev. Mark Ward and Rev. Lisa Kemper of Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville, Rev. John Brock, Rev. Joe Hoffman of First Congregational Church, and Rev. Amy Cantrell of Beloved Community.
The WE DO Campaign will intensify its tactics to resist unjust laws tomorrow, October 14th. You can read more about the planned events here. Please stay turned for further updates. Also, you can follow tomorrow’s actions on our Facebook page and via Twitter – #wedo.
