Trans Youth Emergency Project Town Hall on Recent Federal Attacks

January 7, 2026 in Uncategorized by Emma Chinn

In December of 2025, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced two proposed rules that would impact gender-affirming care for trans youth. One prohibits federal Medicaid and Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP) from covering gender-affirming care for youth, and another bars all hospitals that participate in Medicaid or Medicare from treating transgender youth. Additionally, two anti-trans bills have also passed the House in Congress, and may be considered by the Senate in the coming months. One bill criminalizes youth gender-affirming care nationwide, while the other bars Medicaid and CHIP from covering youth gender-affirming care. We know this is an unsettling and confusing time for many families and caregivers across the country, so we’re hosting a community Town Hall to break down what’s happening, the legal landscape, and tangible resources to help impacted families locate unimpacted providers.

Fill out the form below to RSVP to our virtual Town Hall on Recent Federal Attacks on Wednesday, January 14th from 6:30-7:30pm. The Town Hall will take place on Zoom, and even if you can’t attend in real-time, a summary of what was discussed will be sent to all RSVPs after the event.

Need immediate support? If you need help finding unimpacted providers of gender-affirming care or funding for travel, mental health expenses, or whatever you need, please get in touch here.
