At the Campaign for Southern Equality, we are committed to making sure LGBTQ community members across the South make their voices heard. Against the region-wide onslaught on LGBTQ protections, abortion access, and core democratic principles, voting is one way to speak out on issues that impact us hardest. We deserve safe, healthy lives where we are protected and allowed to thrive.
That’s why mobilizing LGBTQ turnout in the 2022 races matters more than ever. One in five LGBTQ people are not registered to vote – but our numbers can help sway elections and ensure that opponents of LGBTQ equality cannot continue to discriminate against our community. Your vote is your vote – let’s use it.
Today, October 11, is the deadline to vote in many Southern states – including Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. And in the rest of the South, voter registration deadlines are rapidly approaching.
The South is home to more LGBTQ+ people than any other region in the country: 1 in every 3 LGBTQ+ adults is a Southerner, and our queer youth population continues to grow. We can command political power – but only if we vote.
