It’s been an exciting few weeks of LGBTQ Pride Month, and in the final days of June, we’re taking things to the next level with a flurry of events across Asheville. AVL Celebrates 50 Years of Pride!
On Friday, June 21, nonprofit organizations across the Western North Carolina area are coming together to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall! Festivities include a Dance Party and a Drag Show. Doors at Eleven on Grove open at 6pm, when you can come say hi to our team. Join the Asheville Voter Registration Team!
We’re all about turning out the vote across the South, which is why we’re registering voters in the build up to critical local, state and federal elections in 2020. Want to be part of the Asheville Voter Registration Team? You’ll get training in non-partisan voter registration and can sign up to help register voters with us at events ranging from Pride celebrations to festivals to marches. Marriage Equality Birthday Party at East Fork
On Wednesday, June 26, our team will be at East Fork Asheville (82 N. Lexington Ave) and East Fork Atlanta (in Westside Provisions District) to raise a glass to the 4th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on the freedom to marry. There will be birthday cake, drinks, and the release of this year’s batch of Equality Mugs. 100% of the profits from the sales of the Equality Mug will benefit CSE. Meet Queer Asheville Artists at Our Southern Equality Studio Event!
On Thursday, June 27, from 6:00-8:00pm, Liz Williams and Al Murray will present a panel discussion highlighting the experiences of local LGBTQ artists, part of CSE’s Southern Equality Studio program. Artist and curator Chelsea Dobert-Kehn will moderate a conversation and Q&A with ceramicist and sculptor Mac McCusker, artist Maxx Feist, artist Jékksyn Orilyn Ícaro and photographer Hannah Felperin. Participants will talk about visibility, queer visual culture and living creatively in the South. RSVP for the special free event on Facebook.
Attend Pride Night at Memorial Stadium
Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 29 and join us at Memorial Stadium in Asheville for Asheville City Soccer’s annual Pride Night! The CSE team will be there to get you engaged in our efforts to secure LGBTQ equality across the South. Check Out Spiritex Pride Merchandise Benefiting CSE
Asheville-based apparel company Spiritex is donating proceeds from its Pride Month merchandise to the Campaign for Southern Equality! The local business has some in-store exclusives featuring rainbows and Pride messaging, including hoodies and infinity bandanas. Two t-shirts are available for purchase online. Try the Thirsty Monk’s Unity Gose
This summer Thirsty Monk Biltmore Park launched “Unity Gose,” a new beer that will benefit the Campaign for Southern Equality! The brewery is donating a portion of each pour to CSE while supplies last. Thanks to Thirsty Monk for its special Karma Series, and for making a difference for LGBTQ folks in the area.
