RSVP for an Emergency Town Hall About Alabama’s Gender-Affirming Care Ban

August 23, 2023 in News by Emma Chinn

Families of transgender youth in Alabama – as you are grappling with the implementation of the cruel anti-transgender law SB184, please know that help is available.

SB184 criminalizes Alabama healthcare professionals for providing medically necessary healthcare for trans adolescents for the treatment of gender dysphoria. This means that care such as gender-affirming hormone therapy and puberty blockers will soon be inaccessible in Alabama for any trans person until they turn 19, while the same treatments will be allowed to be provided to any other young person for any other reason. It is important to note that families should still be able to fill prescriptions at pharmacies, as pharmacies are not blocked by SB184.

We know that families have questions about this legislation and what it means for the future. That’s why this Thursday, August 24th at 6:00pm Central, Prism United, Magic City Acceptance Center, Campaign for Southern Equality, and Human Rights Campaign are hosting a virtual event focused on helping families understand the legislation and navigate access to gender-affirming care, while offering community support and answering questions.

At the event, we will discuss resources available, including an overview of the gender-affirming care ban, ways you can take action, and resources that are available.

Please RSVP, and we’ll send you the dial-in information ahead of the Town Hall.
